How to Get More Greens
So today we’re going over How To Get More Greens into your diet! Most often I hear…I love fruit, but veggies, I’m not a big fan. Or I know I need to eat greens, but I just can’t eat that much salad. Listen, I get it! So let’s talk about easy and fast ways to include more greens into your diet that still taste good but aren’t salad.
So I’m sure you’ve heard about the huge health benefits of greens!
Greens are superfoods! They are full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can boost overall heath. My top 3 reasons to eat leafy greens are:
- Weight Loss Support- Greens are low in calories, high in fibre and high in nutrients that support healthy metabolism.
- Bone Health- Greens are rich in calcium and magnesium which are integral building blocks of healthy bones. Adding them to your diet can reduce osteoporosis.
- Antioxidant Support– Greens contain lutein, carotenoids, flavonoids, zeaxanthin Vitamin C and Vitamin E which can protect your body from cancer, heart disease, diabetes and boost immune function.
After that list, I think we can all agree… Greens are amazing for your health.
So how do we get more in your diet?
Some of my favourite greens are: spinach, kale, arugula, Swiss chard and collards. Here are some quick ways that you can get more greens into your diet:
Smoothies– I know, I think I always talk about smoothies…but they just work. Try adding a handful of spinach in your next smoothie. This adds fibre and and an antioxidant punch to any morning or snack smoothie. In the comments, I’d love to hear if you’ve tried it…and could you taste it?
Soups + Stews– in your next batch of soup or stew, add in baby kale or baby spinach or chopped up greens.
Pesto – is an awesome way to add a bigger health punch to your pastas. You can use spinach in with your basil to take your pesto to the next level.
Blender Muffins– try adding spinach to your muffins. Yes the muffins will be green but that makes them more fun. These could be monster muffins or Hulk muffins. Check out this recipe.
Omeletes & Egg Cups – try adding a hint of greens in your next breakfast creation.
Wraps– try using Botton Lettuce or Romaine hearts for your next taco night or using Collards for wraps.
Pizza– try adding arugula onto your homemade pizza
See there are plenty of ways to add greens to your life that don’t have to be salad.
So my challenge to you, is pick one or two ways to add more greens in your diet. Find a recipe and give it a try. My suggestion is always to start with spinach as it has a much milder flavour.
Finally, another simple hack is to use a greens powder. Life can get busy and at times can be difficult to eat all the healthy foods. Obviously, I ‘m a bigger fan of trying to add leafy greens into your diet as food, but if it’s just not working or you need a bigger boost, there are great greens powders you could try. Again, adding to smoothies, water or baking.
