Magic Socks- The Answer to Congestion, Fever and Headaches

In General Health, Guelph Naturopathic Doctor, Infants & Toddlers

Unfortunately, it’s that time of year again….the cold and flu season is back and with it comes, sneezing, sniffling, headaches, fevers, chills and general feelings of awfulness. So I thought I would share with you one of my SECRET natural remedies for the cold and flu season.  MAGIC SOCKS!  Great for kids and adults!!

What are magic socks? They’re an age old remedy that uses wool socks and the concepts of hydrotherapy to help alleviate nasal and head congestion, reduce fever and ameliorate headaches associated with the common cold, flu or sinus infection.

What You’ll Need:

  1. Wool socks
  2. Thin cotton sport socks
  3. Water

  1. Just before bed, sock the thin cotton socks in COLD water.  As cold as your tap can go.  Once the socks are completely wet, ring them out so that they are wet but not dripping.
  2. Put these wet socks on your feet
  3. Pull the wool socks on overtop of the cotton socks
  4. Get snuggled into bed

Now, don’t knock it till you try it!  Yes it sounds crazy, why would you put cold socks on before bed when you’re sick?  Although the socks aren’t really magic, it uses the concepts of hydrotherapy to promote  blood flow.   Increased circulation allows the the congestion to drain and stimulates blood flow to the feet.   When you wake up, your feet and socks will be toasty dry and your headache, fever and stuffiness will be gone.  So say bye-bye to those achy, stuffy, nose blowing days and hello to magic socks!
